Experience

Sunday closes out the festival with Experience, an all-day party at the massive, multi-use complex The Midway showcasing the diversity in programming and style that has come to define the MUTEK culture. This final celebration boasts two dance floors, a slew of art installations and a culinary guest chef—stay all day and wind down with us as we dance the festival to a close. Live performers include CYRNAI (Dark Entries label), the NA premiere of The Hacker presenting Amato Live, Tayhana (of NAAFI label collective), a special live set from synth legend Legowelt, Minimal Wave boss Veronica Vasicka and many more. Alongside these live performers, EXPERIENCE will feature an impressive array of art installations from various artists across the globe, including renowned French installation media artist disnovation.org presenting Online Culture Wars, an interactive musical instrument produced by Ryan Edwards of MASARY Studios and Gold Currents a new work from local artist ecco screen.

Nocturne 2

Nocturne 2 continues the late-night experience at classic North Beach venue Broadway Studios with a world premiere live set from Sepehr, the West Coast premiere of Halal & Relaxer (featuring the inimitable Aurora Halal and Daniel Martin-McCormick), a live performance from legacy Detroit  duo Ectomorph, a West Coast live A/V premiere from the woozy soundscapes of Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement  (Vatican Shadow and Low Jack), an exceptionally rare performance from Berlin-based Shed, the genre-evading Edna King, and a special collaborative live performance from CLUB CHAI co-founder Lara Sarkissian with Khatch on duduk woodwind and frame drum.

A/Visions 3

A/Visions 3 spans two rooms a converted North Beach church turned venue. Upstairs, viewers are treated to a stunning audiovisual show, featuring French experimental artist Freeka Tet and his piece UV101 (FKA Face Tag), Bay Area-based classical and jazz-inspired composer and artist Cruel Diagonals, and Steve Hauschildt & Tzonev AV. Downstairs, attendees will find a guided meditation and ambient experience with composer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith showcasing soothing synth songs from her recent release Tides: Music for Meditation and Yoga.

4pm Yoga Session with Showga + DJ Shiva. Showga is a live concert on your mat incorporating yoga, live music performance, aromatherapy, and lights. Lead at this year’s MUTEK.SF by powerhouse DJ and producer Shiva. Showga presents the unique opportunity to reset and reconnect to the wonder of being alive with this festive exploration of the senses. Los Angeles producer and DJ Shiva has ignited dance floors all over the world, with a dynamic range that finds her mixing genres effortlessly. A limited number of mats will be available to borrow. Nocturne 1

▲THIS FRIDAY! Nocturne 1 1015 Folsom ▲ Join us as we transform this mainstay of the SF music scene into our own MUTEK playground, with an immersive installation by Marpi Studio and Quarso with other modifications this space has never seen. We’ve programmed two rooms of inspired performances, with one room featuring Layne, Norwegian duo Smerz, notoriously mysterious duo Amnesia Scanner, a live A/V set from GAIKA, and the legendary Kode9 presenting Diggin in the Carts with famed Japanese animator Kōji Morimoto. Our second room includes German innovator and Raster-Noton father Byetone, renowned local artists BLEIE & Chelley Sherman, Abandoned Footwear & arc, and electro mastermind Arpanet.

A/Visions 2

Taking place at the Herbst Theatre, a classic Beaux-Arts style theatre, A/Visions 2 featurES a rare performance by legendary electro outfit Dopplereffekt performing their dynamic brand of introspective techno. They are joined A/V artist de/Rastra,  Warp Records pianist Kelly Moran, presenting a West Coast premiere of her immersive A/V performance, and the North American premiere of Dökk, a piece by Italian art studio fuse*, who mix aerial performance and technological prowess for a unique, visually striking experience.

A/Visions 1

A/Visions 1 takes place on Thursday in partnership with California Academy of Sciences and Nightlife in their state-of-the-art planetarium and features dome shows by Robert Koch presenting Sphere and Canadian art collective susy.technology with their new piece Indivisible. Other performances include ambient sets from Montreal’s Echo Beach, Nova Scotia’s JOYFULTALK, and Live sets from SOLPARA and Michael Claus. Tickets to the partner event are included for passport holders. Dome seats must be reserved through CalAcademy at a $3 surcharge.
